Match Review ACC Shopee Cup | Buriram United FC 1-1 Selangor FC | Points Shared in Shopee Cup Opener

Selangor FC opened their ACC Shopee Cup campaign with a 1-1 draw against defending champions Buriram United FC at Buriram Stadium last night.

Both sides played with high intensity throughout the match. Selangor looked confident in the first half and created several opportunities. Their breakthrough came in the 38th minute when Sharul Nazeem sent a long pass to Quentin Cheng, who linked up with Nooa Laine before setting up Chrigor Moraes. The forward finished well from the left side to give Selangor the lead.

The Red Giants held on until added time, where 10 minutes were played. Buriram eventually found the equaliser in the 90+6 minute through Peter Zulj, who scored with a header from a set piece. The match ended with a draw, 1-1.

Head Coach Katsuhito Kinoshi expressed satisfaction with his players’ effort but noted there is room for improvement.

“I believe the players worked very hard for this match with great togetherness, especially in the first half. That’s why we managed to secure a draw against a strong team like Buriram United FC. We should be proud, but we also need to keep improving and play with confidence in the next matches,” he said.

Kinoshi also thanked the supporters who travelled to Thailand.

“To our supporters, thank you very much for coming here to support us. We need your support in every competition, whether in the Malaysian League, ACL Two, or the Shopee Cup. We truly appreciate your support,” he added.

Selangor FC will return to domestic action on 24 August, facing Negeri Sembilan FC at Tuanku Abdul Rahman Stadium, Paroi, kickoff at 9:00PM.

The management has expressed pride in the players’ performance and encouraged the team to carry the same commitment into the upcoming league fixture.
